Are you looking for something fun to do outside? Olmstead Place Historical State Park is located right off of Interstate 90 near Ellensburg. All you need to bring with you is a Discover Pass, warm clothes and a sense of adventure.
This historical state park was originally the farmland of the Olmstead family in 1875. The land, including the tools and various outbuildings, was donated to State Parks in 1968. It is now a family-friendly park that offers a glimpse into the past.
Madeline Wilson, CWU alum, says “There is so much rich history there.”
Wilson believes Olmstead is a great place to do homework, relax with friends and learn more about the community.
The barn at Olmstead Place Historical State Park is a part of Kittitas County’s Barn Quilts Trail. The Barn Quilts Trail is a self-guided tour honoring the local agriculture industry and the families behind it. The quilts on the tour are up year-round.
Aside from the historical significance, there is one mile of hiking trails, seasonal fishing and winter activities available. If you want to simply relax, you can also pack a picnic and utilize one of their many picnic tables.
There are several places in which to take in the scenery. The land offers inspiration to artists and other creators wishing to see some of Washington State’s natural beauty.
